How can I find my email headers ?
In this article, we will discover how to find the headers of your emails, which can be particularly useful during an investigation in case of a deliverability issue.
Introduction:
- An email consists of a header and the main content of the message (the body of the text). The headers contain various information about the email, such as the sender, the recipient, the date of sending, the sending server, the IP address used, etc.
- This information is useful for our support team who will need the email header to investigate some deliverability issues you might encounter.
Where to find the header of a sent email ?
The header we will need is found in the email received by the recipient of the email.
Email received on a "Gmail" address :
- Open the email.
- Click on the vertical menu with three dots to the right of the reply icon, the arrow. (number 1 in the image)
- Select "Show Original." (number 2 in the image)
A new window will open, click on "Copy to clipboard".
- Paste the content into a notes file for easy transmission.
Email received on a "Microsoft" email address :
- Open the email.
- On the right menu bar, look for the icon of three vertical dots. (number 1 in the image)
- Then click on "View". (number 2 in the image)
- Then go to "View message source". (number 3 in the image)
- A pop-up containing the email header will appear, please select it, copy, and paste it into a note.
Email received on a "Yahoo" email address :
- Click on the email.
- Click on the icon with three horizontal dots next to the SPAM icon in the menu above the email. (number 1 in the image)
- Select "View raw Message" from the menu. (number 2 in the image)
- A new window will open containing the email header.
- Copy all the text and paste it into a note.
