Limits and restrictions when using Apple Pay

Despite its popularity, Apple Pay has certain limitations that are important to know before integrating or using it. Here are the main restrictions to keep in mind:

1. Limited compatibility with browsers

One of the main limitations of Apple Pay concerns web browsers. On Mac computers, Apple Pay only works with the Safari browser. This means that if you try to use Apple Pay via other browsers like Chrome, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge on a Mac, you will not be able to complete your transactions.

For an optimal experience with Apple Pay, users must ensure they are using Safari. Moreover, regarding integrations on platforms like Stripe, here is a complete list of browsers supported by Apple Pay.

2. Unsupported countries

While Apple Pay is available in many countries, some markets are still unsupported. For example, India and Thailand are not yet among the countries where Apple Pay is available, which can pose a problem for users or merchants in those regions.

It is recommended to regularly check the list of countries supporting Apple Pay to verify if your country or that of your customers is supported.

3. Device compatibility

Apple Pay is designed to work on certain specific Apple devices, such as iPhones, iPads, Apple Watch, and certain models of Mac. It is important to check that your device is compatible with Apple Pay before attempting to use it. Older Apple devices, or those whose operating systems are not updated, may not be compatible with this feature.

4. Restrictions based on payment methods

Apple Pay works with credit and debit cards issued by partner banks in supported countries. However, some banks or card issuers may not be compatible with Apple Pay, even in regions where the service is active.

Note: generally speaking, while Apple Pay is a fast and secure payment solution, it has certain important limitations to be aware of, particularly concerning supported browsers, geographical availability, and device compatibility. Therefore, it's crucial to stay informed of the latest updates and specific restrictions to avoid any frustration during its use.
