How to automate the process of cleaning up your contact list

This guide shows you how to automatically clean up your contact list on systeme.io.

What you will need:

Hover over your profile picture and click on Settings (1). In the settings menu, click Emails (2).

Scroll down to the Automatic list cleaning section (3). You will see the following two options:

  1. Every week Unsubscribe/Delete all contacts who have not opened any email for 1 to 26 weeks and who have never purchased anything.
  2. Every week Unsubscribe/Delete all contacts who have not opened any email for 1 to 26 weeks and who have already purchased something.

Here are a few examples of how this works:

Automatically delete contacts who have been inactive for 8 weeks and haven't made any purchases:

Check the box "Every week delete all contacts who have not opened any email for 8 weeks and who have never purchased anything".

Automatically unsubscribe contacts who have been inactive for 8 weeks and haven't made any purchases:

Check the box "Every week unsubscribe all contacts who have not opened any email for 8 weeks and who have never purchased anything".

Note: Unsubscribing contacts prevents them from receiving future emails, but it does not remove them from your contact list.

Automatically delete contacts who have been inactive for 8 weeks and have made a purchase:

Check the box "Every week delete all contacts who have not opened any email for 8 weeks and who have already purchased something".

Note: The have already purchased something option applies to contacts who are existing customers.

Finally, automatically unsubscribe contacts who have been inactive for 8 weeks and have made a purchase:

Check the box "Every week unsubscribe all contacts who have not opened any email for 8 weeks and who have already purchased something".

By unsubscribing them, the contacts are not removed from your contact list; however, they will no longer be able to receive emails from you.

Important:

  • If you want to keep sales records for accounting purposes, we recommend unsubscribing inactive contacts rather than deleting them.
  • Removing unengaged contacts improves your email deliverability. Maintaining an engaged list ensures better open rates and overall statistics.
