How to send automated course reminder emails to students
This article explains how to set up automatic reminder emails to help students complete their courses. With this feature, reminders can be sent based on student behavior and progress, with full control over timing, frequency, and message content.
Accessing Reminder Settings
First, from your dashboard, go to the Assets tab (1) and select Courses (2).
In the courses list, open the three-dot menu next to the desired course (3) and select Settings (4).
You'll be redirected to the course settings tab. Scroll down to find the Email reminders section (5).
Check the Enable email reminders box (6) to enable the Reminder configuration button (7).
Clicking the Reminder settings button will display a pop-up where the following options can be defined:
1. When to Send the Reminder
Under When to send (8), two timing conditions are available:
- Days after course enrollment
- Days after last login
Enter the number of days after the chosen condition to trigger the reminder.
Additionally, it’s possible to define the specific time of day for the email to be sent (9).
2. Who should receive the reminder
Reminder emails can be sent to:
- Students who haven’t started the course
- Students who made partial progress, with an adjustable minimum percentage value
Both options can be enabled simultaneously, allowing reminders to reach students who never began and those who paused midway (10).
3. Sending Frequency
Two options control how often the reminder is sent (11):
- Once: the email will be sent one time based on the defined condition
- Repeat: the email will be sent repeatedly at an interval defined in days
When repetition is enabled, additional controls appear:
- Repeat every X days (12)
- Stop sending reminders (13):
- On a specific date
- After a defined number of occurrences
This allows full control over how persistent the reminder sequence should be.
Customizing the Email
The reminder email content is fully editable using the same editor available for newsletters and campaigns. All personalization tags are supported, including a specific one for this feature:
{course_link}
– automatically replaced with a direct link to the course
This makes it easy to create messages that guide students back to where they left off or encourage them to begin.
