How to track UTM parameters in systeme.io

In this article, you will learn how to create UTM parameters for systeme.io pages and activate the UTM tracking feature.

What are UTM parameters?

UTM parameters are short codes added to a URL to track which traffic sources lead to your pages.

These codes must be added manually and the data collected gives additional insight about your contacts, helping to understand which links they used to opt-in.

Adding UTM parameters to your links using Google's campaign URL builder:

Google's Campaign URL Builder is a free tool that helps you create custom URLs with UTM parameters for your systeme.io marketing campaigns.

Using the Campaign URL Builder

Go to https://ga-dev-tools.appspot.com/campaign-url-builder/

Fill in the required fields regarding your campaign:

  • Website URL: Enter the URL of the page you want to track (e.g., https://www.example.com/landing-page).
  • Campaign Source: Specify the source of your traffic, such as a search engine (e.g., Google), social media platform (e.g., Facebook), or a newsletter (e.g., customer newsletter).
  • Campaign Medium: Indicate the marketing medium, such as email, paid ads, or social media.
  • Campaign Name: Provide a descriptive name for your campaign (e.g., coaching_course_2023) to help you easily identify it in your analytics reports.
  • (Optional) You can also fill in the Campaign Term and Campaign Content fields to track additional information, such as keywords or ad variations.

After providing this information, the tool will automatically generate a custom URL with UTM parameters:

Copy the generated URL and use it in your emails, social media posts, ads, etc.

Remember to create unique URLs with appropriate UTM parameters for each marketing channel and campaign to ensure accurate tracking and reporting.
