How to track UTM parameters in systeme.io

It’s possible to track UTM parameters in systeme.io by exporting your contacts along with the UTM attached to the link they used to opt-in/purchase on your pages. This lets you know exactly which traffic brought each contact to your pages before they took the desired action.

However, this does not occur automatically, you’ll need to manually add the UTM parameters to the links you publish online.

This page will show you exactly how to create UTM parameters for your pages in systeme.io. Secondly, it will show you how to activate our UTM tracking feature to export it along with your contacts and attribute your leads and sales.

Adding UTM parameters to your links using Google's campaign URL builder:

Google's Campaign URL Builder is a free tool that helps you create custom URLs with UTM parameters for your marketing campaigns.

By using this tool, you can easily use UTM parameters to track the performance of your marketing efforts with systeme.io.

Here's how to use Google's Campaign URL Builder to add UTMs to your links:

  1. Visit Google's Campaign URL Builder: https://ga-dev-tools.appspot.com/campaign-url-builder/

Fill in the required fields:

  • Website URL: Enter the URL of the page you want to track (e.g., https://www.example.com/landing-page).
  • Campaign Source: Specify the source of your traffic, such as a search engine (e.g., Google), social media platform (e.g., Facebook), or a newsletter (e.g., customer newsletter).
  • Campaign Medium: Indicate the marketing medium, such as email, paid ads, or social media.
  • Campaign Name: Provide a descriptive name for your campaign (e.g., coaching_course_2023) to help you easily identify it in your analytics reports.
  • (Optional) You can also fill in the Campaign Term and Campaign Content fields to track additional information, such as keywords or ad variations.

Once you've entered the necessary information, the tool will automatically generate a custom URL with the UTM parameters included:

Copy the generated URL and use it in your emails, social media posts, ads, etc.

Remember to create unique URLs with appropriate UTM parameters for each marketing channel and campaign to ensure accurate tracking and reporting.

How to track UTM parameters in systeme.io and export the captured data:

When users click on the custom URL and opt-in to one of your forms or make a purchase from you, the UTM parameters will be captured by systeme.io, letting you analyze the performance of your marketing efforts with more granular tracking.

However, this feature needs to be enabled on the Sales funnel settings page before UTM data can be collected.

To ensure that you collect the UTM parameters associated with your contacts make sure the box next to “Store UTM parameters” is checked

After saving these settings, promoting your links with their UTM parameters attached and generating new leads and sales, you’re ready to export the data and attribute your marketing campaigns.

Go to your contacts dashboard and (1.) select the contacts you’d like to export. Then click (2.) "More actions "in the bottom right corner, then on “Export”.

You can then (3.) select the UTM parameters you want to export along with each contact (if they have a linked UTM parameter).

You will then be able to view the selected UTM parameters linked to your contacts in the CSV file that you've exported.
