How do you control access to subscription resources?

In this article, you will learn how to control when a customer should get access to a resource after purchasing a subscription.

Default access

By default, a customer receives access to the resource immediately after purchasing a subscription offer, even if the payment has not yet been received.

How does this work?

Processing times for payment methods such as PayPal or GoCardless may take up to 7 days. Therefore, to avoid penalizing customers who have finalized their payment, we immediately provide access to the resource automatically.

However, if you prefer to delay access to the resource until the successful receipt of the first subscription payment, this setting can be changed in the payment page options.

What's the purpose of this feature?

The main purpose of this feature is to allow the seller to choose when the customer will have access to the resource when purchasing a subscription. They can decide to give access immediately after purchase or to give access after payment has been received.

For example: Our systeme.io customer support team received a request from Ross, a user who couldn't understand why his customer had been given access to the course, even though the first subscription payment had failed.

In this situation, our system will provide instant access to the resource specified in the payment page settings, whether the subscription payment succeeded or failed. It should be noted that if the first payment fails, we will make additional attempts to collect the payment in the following days.

The solution: In this case, the vendor can choose to give access to his course to the customer only after receiving the first payment.

To do this on your systeme.io account, simply go to your Profile picture and click on "Settings" (number 1 in the image). Click on "Payment pages" from the settings panel on the left (number 2 in the image), and then select "Give access only after receiving the first payment" (number 3 in the image).

By default, this setting is set to "Grant immediate access after creating an order". However, to avoid giving the customer access to the resource without receiving the first payment, select "Give access only after receiving the first payment".
